NTC thermistor technology means that they have the highest sensitivity to temperature changes. They can detect changes of - 3% to - 5% per degree Celsius, while other resistance technologies, such as platinum or nickel based temperature sensors, can only detect changes of less than 1% per degree Celsius. NTC thermistors also provide a wide range of resistance values, generating low voltage, allowing point to point measurement with maximum accuracy.
These characteristics make NTC thermistor temperature sensors an ideal surface temperature sensor solution for many electronic devices, such as power electronics, cooling system control, consumer electronics, and many other industrial and automotive applications. Thermal reliability and accuracy play an important role in determining the life of batteries and inverters.
 
Resistance to mechanical vibration
There are more and more applications involved in severe vibration and the need to control high power levels and high voltages in very limited spaces. Here, a robust NTC sensor with specified electrical and mechanical performance values is required, which is why we have developed a large number of NTC thermal temperature sensor lug thermistors.
The ear allows the thermistor to be easily attached to the metal surface of the system using a screw. They are usually directly mounted on radiators, battery poles, high-voltage rails, high current plug connectors or enclosures. NTC TR series products include M2 to M6 terminal blocks, and larger versions can be used as customized solutions.
The NTC chip itself is located in the earmuff, with appropriate thermal and electrical isolation safety mechanisms. With insulated conductors, NTC thermistors provide good thermal connection and can withstand operating temperatures up to 150 ° C for a long time.
The electrical performance of the lugs and terminals is critical in the final assembly. To meet specific design requirements, there are many standard sizes and customization options available. For example, the use of nickel conductors in a small closed lug ring can reduce the thermal gradient of the final assembly, which may be important, especially for the temperature measurement of the radiator.
In order to detect the temperature of components conducting high voltage and current, it is necessary to set a high insulation voltage between the sensor surface or lug and the terminal of NTC temperature sensor. For example, Villian's NTC temperature sensor TR series provides up to 5kV AC insulation voltage, providing a key advantage, especially in applications related to electric vehicles, such as on-board chargers (OBCs), DC-DC inverters, charger plugs and sockets, charging conditions, clutches and electric traction motors, batteries and battery management systems (BMS), and temperature control of DC link capacitors.
These applications usually require higher mechanical strength, which can be achieved by larger lugs and thicker line segments when connected to automotive connectors. Due to the minimization of mechanical parameters, the mini tab version provides excellent response time and low temperature gradient, making it very suitable for modules with limited space, such as LED lighting. The influence of mechanical stress caused by circuit design and cable management requirements can be mitigated by using right angle lugs and flexible multi-core conductors.
The selection of NTC temperature sensor is based not only on electrical standards, but also on the selection of screw size and wire thickness. It can also adjust the cable length, peel weld the cable insulation, strengthen the cable insulation (such as heat shrinkable or silicone tube), including cable harness and integrate any number of plug connectors to make it easier for terminal equipment to produce or connect the control board.
