Why process instruments must be resistant to environmental corrosion
Environmental corrosion always exists in chemical, petrochemical and refining operations. Factory processes often involve the use of corrosive materials, which can leak traces into the nearby environment. As time goes by, even if the concentration of these corrosives is the lowest, it will damage nearby equipment and instruments, such as process instruments.
Environmental corrosion usually erodes the internal components of the pressure gauge, often causing lens turbidity and/or damage to the pointer and internal components - either of which can result in inaccurate local pressure readings.
In fact, corrosion has been identified as one of the most common causes of instrument failures.

Case of sealing process instrument
In order to prevent environmental corrosion, the instrument with NEMA 4X enclosure shall be installed to prevent such harsh environment. Process instruments with 4X enclosures help protect the instrument from corrosion, wind dust and rain, splashed water and hose driven water.
Process instruments are used for these harsh operating conditions. Membrane mounted gauges are completely weather proof and fully NEMA 4X "all weather" compliant. The film prevents corrosive media from entering the environment.
In addition to being suitable for measuring the pressure of gas or liquid media in corrosive environments, process pressure gauges with liquid filled enclosures and socket restrictors can also be used in applications with high dynamic pressure pulsations or significant vibrations, which are also common causes for instrument failures.
