How do I convert a 2-wire RTD temperature sensor to a 3-wire or 4-wire RTD?
2021-09-07

Learn how to convert a 2-wire RTD temperature sensor to a 3-wire or 4-wire RTD temperature sensor. This procedure helps us to reduce the temperature measurement error of 2-wire RTD.
Do you have a 2-wire RTD?
The lead resistance of the 2-wire RTD affects the temperature measurement and gives a considerable amount of error reading. If the distance between the 2-wire RTD sensor and the transmitter is greater, your error will be greater.
For example, if the actual process temperature is 150 ° C, a moderate distance between the sensor and the transmitter will produce a large measurement error. Suppose we could get 154 degrees centigrade.
These types of errors are unacceptable. In industrial measurement applications, it is always recommended to use 3-wire RTD or 4-wire RTD sensors.

Do you have a large temperature reading error due to a two-wire RTD temperature sensor?
Do you insist on using 2-wire RTD temperature sensor but want to reduce the temperature error of measurement?
You must then connect the 2-wire RTD temperature sensor to the temperature transmitter via a 3-wire RTD connection or a 4-wire RTD temperature sensor connection.
Does it really work? yes. Your errors will be greatly reduced.

Is this configuration the same as using a 3-wire RTD temperature sensor or a 4-wire RTD temperature sensor? No, it just helps you improve the temperature measurement of 2-wire RTD.

Convert 2-wire RTD to 3-wire RTD
Learn how to convert a 2-wire RTD to a 3-wire RTD temperature sensor.

将 2 线 RTD 转换为 3 线 RTD 维连温度传感器
You must connect an additional cable between any terminal of the RTD temperature sensor and the third terminal of the temperature transmitter.
The temperature transmitter must be configured as a 3-wire RTD sensor.
This configuration can help you reduce the temperature measurement error of 2-wire RTD. When you cannot choose to use a 3-wire RTD sensor, you can follow this procedure.
NOTE: This procedure is not a substitute for using a 3-wire RTD sensor.
Compared with the measurement error of 2-wire RTD, the measurement error will be reduced. Compared with 3-wire RTD, the measurement error will be greater.

Convert 2-wire RTD to 4-wire RTD
Learn how to convert 2-wire RTD to 4-wire RTD.

将 2 线 RTD 转换为 4 线 RTD 传感器 维连温度传感器
You need two additional cables to connect the 2 wires to the temperature transmitter.
Even if we use a 2-wire RTD, the temperature transmitter must be equipped with a 4-wire RTD sensor.
Please note that this configuration can only help you reduce the temperature measurement error, and it is not recommended to replace the 4-wire RTD sensor. It only reduces the measurement error of 2-wire RTD.
